How therapy can help

If you asked me 10 years ago, I would have said "no way" (or in more colourful language!) to the following.

  • Public speaking
  • Create my first event
  • Create my own community
  • Put myself forward for an award
  • Networking

It's through having therapy myself and training as a hypnotherapist that has made all the different and now I enjoy them.

Your mind is an amazing powerhouse. It keeps your system running day and night with not much effort from you to remind it. However, it can go a little wonky with thoughts, fears, pain etc. Our minds are overprotective and sometimes it cannot tell the difference between a real threat and a non threat so it puts us in fight or flight mode. That's probably for safe keeping. However, if it happens too often then it can interfere with day to day life.

We are born with a relatively clean slate. As we go through life we pick up on what is a threat and what isn't. Either by our own experience or from the reaction of our caregivers. For instance, if you have a phobia of spiders you might not even know where this came from. It might not have come from you but you were told as a child that spiders are dangerous. Your mind remembers this and stores it away in a folder called "threats". Next time you see a spider your mind opens the "threat" folder and scans it for anything that matches spiders and if it finds a match then it runs the "program" called "be scared of spiders".

This is where Hypnotherapy comes in handy. Your mind is amazing. It's never to late to learn new things. So with Hypnotherapy we can update the folder "be scared of spiders" to something like "aren't spiders funny". I'm generalising here because everyone's experience is different but hopefully you get the idea. So next time you see a spider your mind runs the "aren't spiders funny" program instead of the "be scared of spiders" program.

Testimonials

Don't just take my word for it

4 yoga mats laid out in a semi circle in a studio setting.

I very much wanted to write this testimonial as an appreciation of Lindsay as a very warm, friendly, but thoroughly professional hypnotherapy practitioner. I have found her to be responsive and respectful, putting me immediately at ease and I couldn't recommend her services more highly.

Lindsay has given me time and skilled expertise to help me overcome an anxiety related issue which has been longstanding in my life for the past 30+ years. I had given up hope of finding resolution for my problem when a chance encounter with Lindsay encouraged me to think there might possibly be some hope of change.

I have found Lindsay to be a most excellent listener, giving me lots of time to speak about my situation and my feelings attached to this. She was then able to tailor her therapy to match my needs.

She has a very generous and open style of communicating, completely accepting and non-judgemental in every way. Her insightful questions enabled her to understand the depth of my problem and explore the roots of the difficulties.

I have found her to be always positive, encouraging and hopeful even when I haven't been! She has gently persuaded me that change is always possible and she has helped me to recognise and overcome negativity. I have been able to take hold of her confidence and build it into my own ways of thinking.

She has an incredible 'tool box' of strategies and techniques and she has supplied me with my own personally tailored resources to listen to at home in my own time. I have been able to achieve much deeper relaxation using her guided meditations.

Perhaps most importantly she has believed in me and also in her own ability to support me in becoming a person who can manage mental health and associated issues with much more assurance. Whilst my issues are not entirely resolved, I am looking at my situation in a different way now, feeling that I am controlling my anxiety and not the other way round.

The work I have done with Lindsay has been of the greatest value and I am very appreciative of the support she has given me. Thank you Lindsay!
